Often we can work through problems and life crises adequately without professional help. At times, however, counselling, referred to as talk therapy, can be of great benefit and the skills of a trained therapist can help bring about a sense of hope and relief while you navigate through a time of difficulty/crisis. In each case, I work creatively with you and select therapeutic interventions that are most likely to help you gain the tools and strategies necessary to: (a) manage your painful thoughts and emotions, (b) clarify your thoughts, and (c) enable you to make your own decisions, problem solve and achieve your goals


At times longer term therapy, known as psychotherapy, may be more appropriate due to the nature of your situation or for self-development. The focus of psychotherapy is on exploring past experiences and unconscious processes, feelings and behaviours that are contributing to and sustaining an individual's ongoing problems. As you regain control over your life, the reasons behind your problems will become less important.



If using hypnosis, I first speak to you to ensure treatment is tailored to your needs and wishes. Hypnosis is a well established treatment that helps you align your unconscious automatic habits with your conscious desires and goals. It is an effective addition to therapy for accelerating lasting change. Hypnosis can be used to help you make changes in unwanted behaviours or help to manage a myriad of concerns both mental and physical. This is achieved by calming the conscious mind sufficiently so that you can achieve a state of focused attention or deep absorption. This allows you to use your imagination creatively to focus in on aspects of your experience and create new choices.


In the context of healthcare, once medically cleared, hypnosis can be taught and used by you as an effective tool in easing your experience of painful or ongoing medical or dental interventions. It is also used to enhance recovery from surgery and in treating various phobias. Hypnosis is effective for managing (medically diagnosed) chronic pain, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) Bladder issues etc.
