Counselling

Often we can work through problems and life crises adequately without professional help. At times, however, counselling, referred to as talk therapy, can be of great benefit and the skills of a trained therapist can help bring about a sense of hope and relief while you navigate through a time of difficulty/crisis. In each case, I work creatively with you and select therapeutic interventions that are most likely to help you gain the tools and strategies necessary to: (a) manage your painful thoughts and emotions, (b) clarify your thoughts, and (c) enable you to make your own decisions, problem solve and achieve your goals

EMDR

EMDR helps clients let go of past events that continue to have a negative impact on the present by obstructing their thinking. When using EMDR I guide you through an exploration of present life circumstances where difficulties are being experienced to help you develop your own strategies and solutions for achieving the future you want. During EMDR therapy, target memories are selected for reprocessing through stimulating eye movements, tones or taps. Once reprocessing is completed, the memories remain but will no longer have such a negative impact on your life.

Hypnotherapy

If using hypnosis, I first speak to you to ensure treatment is tailored to your needs and wishes. Hypnosis is a well-established treatment that helps you align your unconscious automatic habits with your conscious desires and goals. It is a practical addition to therapy for accelerating lasting change. Hypnosis can be used to help you make changes in unwanted behaviours or help to manage a myriad of concerns, both mental and physical. This is achieved by calming the conscious mind sufficiently so that you can achieve a state of focused attention or deep absorption. This allows you to use your imagination creatively to focus on aspects of your experience and create new choices.

Clinical Supervision

Supervision is the cornerstone of support for all those providing therapy regardless of their level of experience or competence. It involves nurturing supervisees to become "wise clinicians." It includes mentoring, feedback, providing a holding space, and monitoring clinical judgments and ethical practice. Individual and group supervision is available to support your personal and professional development. In supervising, I provide a supportive, reflective space for professional development.
